About The Artist
Raymond Carr
|
Sculpture for me is a humbling opportunity
to express my
inner feelings.
Moving forward into the depths, not knowing
or expecting what I will find
a figure appears.
As I continue to remove the material that is not
the sculpture
the finished piece emerges.
What I see is a subtle reflection
of how I feel about the world at large
and also metaphors a time when the earth's people
were more connected to nature. |
 |

|
As a grateful participant in this process,
I understand that I can only take credit
for the sawdust on the floor,
for this is the part that I touched.
The sculpture that remains
is the part I did not touch. |
The
process for my bowls and platters is similar to my sculpture,
in that I remove the material
that is not the bowl.
What remains is the bowl.
From chainsaw to sandpaper,
my bowls and platters
are a reflection of
my state of well-being...
a vessel that is strong and graceful. |

|
The process for my
Medicine Drums
and Rattle
is pure magic,
for it is
truly beyond me.
Spirit gifted,
Spirit guided,
I must give it all up
to the creator,
I do not make
the drum and rattle,
the drum and rattle
make me. |
